2027: APM Forecasts Makinde Victory Over Tinubu in 12 Key Battlegrounds

The Seyi Makinde Campaign Organisation has declared that its presidential candidate on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement, Engr. Seyi Makinde, will defeat President Bola Tinubu in 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory in the January 2027 election. The organisation made the prediction on Saturday in a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa. The statement followed the release of a provisional campaign itinerary for President Tinubu ahead of the upcoming polls. According to the APM campaign, Makinde is projected to outperform the incumbent in crucial battleground states, identifying them as Oyo, Kaduna, Rivers, Plateau, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano, Adamawa, and Lagos. The organisation asserted that the President`s scheduled visits to these regions would fail to alter voter sentiments. The campaign group claimed that the administration`s current economic policies and the widespread hardship faced by Nigerians have significantly weakened Tinubu’s re-election prospects. “The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation declares that its presidential candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, will defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 12 battleground states identified by the President, as well as in other states across the federation,” the statement read in part. The organisation did not provide specific polling data or statistical evidence to support its claims. However, it argued that the selection of these 12 states in the APC`s provisional itinerary reflects internal anxiety within the ruling party regarding Makinde’s rising political appeal. In its statement, the campaign group challenged President Tinubu to travel by road during his tours to directly assess the condition of federal highways and the living standards of citizens, rather than relying on airport arrivals and rallies. Contrasting the administration’s `Renewed Hope Agenda` with Makinde’s proposed `Reset Nigeria Agenda`, the campaign highlighted its focus on a four-year transitional government of national unity, educational access, intelligence-driven security, and economic production. While the APM camp claims its agenda is gaining substantial momentum among youth demographics, no empirical figures were provided to substantiate the claim, and the projected victory margins could not be independently verified.
